Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.- The Pensacola Ice Flyers (1-3-3) dug themselves out of a two-goal first period hole but were unable to secure the win as they fell 3-2 in a shootout to the Huntsville Havoc (6-1-0) on Thursday night inside Propst Arena at the Von Braun Center.

The Havoc took the 1-0 lead just a bit over five minutes into the game as Christian Powers netted his first goal of the year with 14:21 left in the opening period. About a minute before the midpoint of the first, Sy Nutketvich scored to give Huntsville a 2-0 lead.

The Ice Flyers would have to wait before they put the puck in the net but they didn't have to wait too long. In his first game for the Ice Flyers, Swedish winger John Gustafsson scored his first professional goal to cut Huntsville's lead down to 2-1. The goal came 2:36 into the second and was assisted by Jesse Stoughton and Kyle Shapiro.

The Ice Flyers finally evened the scoreboard when captain Corey Banfield scored the extra attacker goal with just 58 seconds remaining in regulation as Ice Flyers coach Kevin Hasselberg pulled goalie Drew Fielding in favor of the extra man. Nick McParland and Brandon Lubin assisted on the tying tally. After a scoreless overtime period, the two teams headed to a shootout. Zach Carriveau and Justin Tateson scored for Huntsville in the shootout while only Gustafsson scored for Pensacola to give Huntsville the 3-2 victory.

Fielding turned aside 25 of the 27 shots he faced in regulation and overtime. His record now stands at 0-2-1.

The Ice Flyers return to the Pensacola Bay Center for a pair of games. Tomorrow, Nov. 11, will be Veterans Appreciation Night with veterans being able to purchase Center Ice tickets for themselves and their families for 25% off. On Saturday, Nov. 12, the Ice Flyers will host their first Wiener Dog Race Night of the season. Both games are scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop.
