Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

CHARLESTON, WV - The West Virginia Power are excited to announce that Summer by Rail correspondent Jacob Wallace will visit Appalachian Power Park as a part of his 6,000-mile, 19-baseball stadium trip across North America. Jacob will arrive in Charleston this evening and will attend the Power's game on Thursday, June 7, against the Lexington Legends. Throughout his travels, Jacob is only using public transit services, such as Amtrak, to explore how the passenger rail service connects people to America's national pastime: baseball.

"I cannot imagine a better way to spend my summer than riding trains across the country and visiting ballparks that I never thought I would be able to get to," said Wallace. "That is really the beauty of trains. They connect us to people and places we most likely would not have had the opportunity to interact with otherwise."

With a route that runs from Miami, Fla., to Seattle, Wash., the Summer by Rail correspondent will experience various MLB, MiLB and independent league stadiums in the U.S. and Canada.

While in Charleston, W.V., Wallace will tour Appalachian Power Park and meet the legendary Rod "Toastman" Blackstone, a Power superfan and Charleston's Deputy Mayor, who throws toast to the fans after an opposing batter strikes out. During the game, Wallace will join David Kahn in the broadcast booth and assist with entertaining the team's dedicated listeners.

"Visiting 19 different ballparks in one summer is every baseball fan's dream," said Kahn, the Power's Broadcast and Media Relations Manager. "I'm sure I'm not the only one who is impressed that a trip of this magnitude could be completed using only public transportation. We are very excited to host Jacob at the park and help share this unique perspective with our fans."

Wallace will share regular updates on his trip, highlights of using public transit, and other riders' views on using services like Amtrak online via the Summer by Rail blog, www.summerbyrail.com, and on Instagram and Twitter using the handle @RailPassengers. You can also find posts using the hashtags #SummerbyRail, #SBR2018 and #SummerTraining.
