Raiders Pushed To The Brink With Game 4 Loss
March 29, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Prince Albert Raiders News Release
Prince Albert, SK - The Prince Albert Raiders' backs are against the wall following a 2-0 loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors in Game 4 of their WHL Playoffs first-round series on Wednesday night.
The Raiders now trail the series 3-1.
A tightly-contested first period yielded no goals for either team. Ian Scott made six saves in the period, while Brody Willms turned aside all nine Raider shots.
Early in the second, the Raiders upped the pressure which almost resulted in a goal. Brett Leason beat his man on the left wing, cutting to the net. He slid the puck across the crease for Parker Kelly, but the Ottawa Senators prospect put the attempt just wide of the right post.
The Warriors eventually broke through with 3:57 to play in the second period. Justin Almeida walked in from the slot and snapped a shot through Scott to put his club up 1-0.
In the third, the Raiders appeared to tie the game with 9:36 to play. Cole Fonstad pounced on a rebound from Curtis Miske's shot and put it past Willms. However, the call of a good goal on the ice was overturned as it was determined Max Martin made incidental contact with the goaltender on the play. The Raiders kept the pressure up in the third, outshooting their opponents 11-5 in the final frame. With the goalie pulled, the Warriors ended any hopes of a comeback with an empty-net goal with 15.6 seconds left on the clock.
Willms recorded the shutout with 32 saves on the evening. Scott was just as strong, stopping 21 of 22 shots on the evening.
The Raiders will try to keep their season alive on Saturday night when they travel to Moose Jaw for Game 5 of the series against the Warriors at Mosaic Place. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
If necessary, Game 6 will be back at the Art Hauser Centre on Sunday evening. Game time is 6 p.m.
