WHL U.S. Prospects Camp: Dallas Now Accepting Applications

Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League is now accepting applications for the inaugural WHL U.S. Prospects Camp: Dallas, scheduled for May 25 - 28, 2018, in Dallas, Texas. This is a unique opportunity for 2004-born U.S. hockey players to participate in scrimmages, on/off-ice skills and on/off-ice combine testing with other top-ranked players.

Players can register for the camp online.

The WHL is the largest Major Junior hockey league in North America and is a leading supplier of player talent to the National Hockey League. This will be the first evaluation opportunity conducted by the WHL in the United States prior to the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft. Players will have the opportunity to interact with Head Scouts and General Managers from WHL clubs throughout the camp.

"The WHL is very excited to bring a WHL U.S. Prospects Camp to Dallas in partnership with the Dallas Stars Organization," commented WHL Commissioner Ron Robison. "The WHL U.S. Prospects Camp: Dallas will provide prospects in the U.S. an opportunity to learn more about the WHL, the world's leading development league for junior-age players."

Over the coming weeks, the WHL will continue to accept applications. For those players interested in participating in this year's WHL U.S. Prospects Camp: Dallas, you must complete registration and full payment, by Sunday April 22, 2018 at 11:59 PM PST in ordered to be considered for participation.

This four-day event will be held at the Dr Pepper StarCenter - Farmers Branch, and is open to elite players born in 2004. The four-day event will feature on and off-ice WHL Combine testing, on and off-ice player development sessions, a WHL Information Session, and three games per player. Player applications will be open to all players in the WHL catchment area in the Western United States. The WHL U.S. Prospects Camp: Dallas serves as the first step, in the newly formed WHL US Prospects Identification Model.

The WHL U.S. Prospects Identification Model is designed to increase the exposure and development of U.S. elite players, playing within the WHL catchment area in the Western United States with three exclusive identification opportunities:

WHL U.S. Prospects Camp: Dallas

WHL U.S. Prospects Camp: Anaheim

WHL Bantam Draft

It is the individual athlete's goal to earn participation in both Dallas and Anaheim, creating increased opportunity of achieving the ultimate goal, being selected in the WHL Bantam Draft. The WHL U.S. Prospects Camp: Dallas is the first opportunity for 2004 born players to be identified, and make a statement, prior to the start of your WHL Bantam Draft Season. The second step for 2004 born players, will be to earn participation in the 13th annual 2019 WHL U.S. Prospects Camp: Anaheim, to be held April 2019. The third step for 2004-born players will be to earn a selection in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft, to be held May 2019.

The WHL U.S. Prospects Camp: Dallas & Anaheim will provide WHL Combine testing that is operated on behalf of the WHL by the Okanagan Hockey Group (OHG), a global leader in hockey school instructional programs and hockey academics, based out of Penticton, B.C.

The testing systems for the WHL Combine will be supplied by Sport Testing Inc., a Toronto-based global leader in sport testing systems. The Sport Testing Inc. technology includes the most advanced athlete testing solution in the industry today. Sport Testing is currently being used by a number of NHL teams in their player development programs, as well as the Sherwin Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game. Participants in WHL Combine testing will be provided comprehensive results and progress reports, as well as the ability to compare your results within the WHL Combine Database of over 12,000 minor hockey players tested. Results from the WHL Combine testing will also be shared with all WHL General Managers and Head Scouts.
