Raiders Knock Off Warriors In Shootout

Prince Albert Raiders News Release

Moose Jaw, SK - Goaltender Curtis Meger stopped 31 shots and all three opponents in the shootout to lift the Prince Albert Raiders (10-10-3-1) to a 3-2 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors (19-5-0-1) on Saturday night at Mosaic Place.

Raiders leading scorer Jordy Stallard scored the only goal in the shootout in the first round. It also gave the Raiders their first win over the Warriors this season.

The Warriors got the game's first goal 7:29 into the opening frame. Luka Burzan snapped a shot from the slot past Meger to put Moose Jaw up 1-0 after 20 minutes.

In the second, the Raiders tied the game just 35 seconds into the period. Stallard got the Raiders on the board with his 17th goal of the year when he finished a beautiful leading pass from Parker Kelly. At the 3:01 mark, Eric Pearce scored the first goal of his WHL career when he was left alone on the door step and snapped it past Brody Willms.

Pearce's goal kept the Raiders ahead until the final minute of the third. Shortly after Cole Fonstad had his stick slashed out of his hand and into the crowd by Brayden Burke, Chase Hartje's point shot deflected off Jayden Halbgewachs and past Meger to tie the game at 2-2, sending the game to overtime.

In the extra frame, Spencer Moe had three great chances to end the game, but couldn't solve Willms.

That set the stage for Stallard and Meger to win the game in the shootout. Stallard snapped it off the post and past Willms for the lone goal. Meger turned aside Burzan, Brett Howden, and Halbgewachs to seal the win for the Raiders.

Willms made 30 saves in the loss for the Warriors.

The Raiders head back on the road for a three-game trip through the Central Division beginning on Wednesday night in Cranbrook against the Kootenay ICE (11-14-1-0). Game time is 8 p.m. The next Raiders' home game is on Wednesday, December 6 against the Medicine Hat Tigers. Puck drop is 7 p.m.

The Raiders will also hold their Teddy Bear Toss on Friday, December 8 against the Kamloops Blazers. The game starts at 7 p.m. Purchase your tickets for both games at raiderhockey.com, the Raider Office, or call 306-764-5348.
