August 30, 2005 - Eastern League (EL1)
Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Corey Ragsdale hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the eighth and the Binghamton Mets bullpen was able to make it stand up, picking up a 6-4 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in the series opener at Fisher Cats Ballpark Tuesday. The B-Mets have won eight of their last 13.

The B-Mets (60-76) were able to jump on New Hampshire starter Vince Perkins for four early runs. In the first, Wayne Lydon lined a one-out single to left and, after stealing second, scored on an Aarom Baldiris single for the game's first run. Brett Harper made it 3-0 when he followed with a two-run homer to right.

After New Hampshire (66-70) got within 3-2 on Ron Acuna's two-run single in the bottom of the first, Binghamton got another run in the second when Ragsdale drew a leadoff walk, stole second, moved to third on an error and came home on a Russ Triplett single.

A leadoff homer by Curtis Thigpen in the bottom of the second drew New Hampshire within a run and Erik Kratz tied the score in the seventh with a solo homer of his own, chasing MacLane.

With one out in the eighth, Bobby Malek singled and Ragsdale followed with his two-run blast to straightaway centerfield. Blake McGinley (1-0) and Tim Lavigne provided 2 1/3 innings of shutout relief to preserve the win, with Lavigne getting his fifth save. Wednesday, the B-Mets continue their three-game series at New Hampshire. Luz Portobanco (2-11, 7.10) will start for Binghamton against New Hampshire's Ismael Ramirez (7-13, 4.08). The first pitch is slated for 6:35 from Fisher Cats Park with the radio broadcast beginning at 6:20 with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
