Connecticut Defenders News Release

Norwich, Conn. -- The Norwich Navigators erased a two-run 6th inning deficit, then snapped ties with single runs in the 7th and 8th, to defeat the Trenton Thunder, 6-5, at Dodd Stadium tonight.

Norwich scored three times after two were out in the 6th inning on a bases-loaded, bases-clearing double by Tim Hutting that made it 4-3 Norwich. Trenton tied it with a run in the top of the 7th but the Navigators answered right back with one in the bottom half of the inning.

The Thunder came back with one to tie in the top of the 8th, but Norwich pushed across the go-ahead run on a throwing error by shortstop Ramiro Pena in the bottom of the 8th, to go up 6-5. Alfredo Simon (2-8), who came on to get the final two outs in the 8th inning, retired the side in order in the 9th to pick up his second win of the season. Jeff Kennard (0-1) took the loss for Trenton.

The Navigators will look to make it two in a row over the Thunder when they send lefty Brian Mazone (9-8) to the mound tomorrow night against Trenton righty Steven White (2-6). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
