Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush hosted division rivals, the Rocky Mountain Rage on Wednesday as the Rush were coming off a big win against Tulsa Saturday night. Rapid City looked to stay on the right track against the Rage, but fell short 7-1.
The first period wasn't short on goals, but unfortunately they weren't put on the board by the Rush. Rocky Mountain got on the board first as Cole King got the puck past Lanny Ramage at 2:38 into the period. The Rage would then add to their lead as King tallied another goal at 5:10 into the period. King's second goal was assisted by Daymen Raycroft and Aaron Davis who was activated off of the IR before the game. Rapid City responded by cutting the lead in half as Jon Pelle grabbed a powerplay goal at 14:09 into the first frame. Pelle was assisted by Paul Kelly and Chris Lipsett. Rocky Mountain wasn't done scoring for the period as Domenic Maiani grabbed the Rage's third goal of the period. Maiani was assisted by Mark Smith and David Morelli, with only four seconds left in the period. The two squads ended the first period with a Rocky Mountain lead, 3-1.
The second period was one to forget for the Rush as Rocky Mountain continued to dominate offensively, even with a switch in goal as Miguel Beaudry took over for Lanny Ramage. Maiani tallied his second goal of the game at 2:55 into the middle frame. Maiani was assisted by Morelli and Mark Smith. Rocky Mountain's next goal wouldn't come until 16:11 in the period when Maiani grabbed his third goal of the night for the hat trick. Maiani was once again set up by Morelli and Smith. Then the Rage found the back of the net yet again, this time with only three seconds left. Morelli put the puck past Beaudry at 19:57 and was assisted by Smith. This left the Rush down, 6-1 heading into the final period.
Play remained about the same for both teams in the third period, except for the Rocky Mountain offense which slowed down. The Rage only tallied one goal during the last frame at 14:32 in the period when Aaron Davis found the back of the net. Davis was assisted by Colt King and Tyler Butler. The game was a physical one that saw a total of 90 penalty minutes. The game ended with a Rocky Mountain victory of 7-1.
Up next for the Rush is another division rival as they host the Wichita Thunder in a weekend doubleheader. The puck drops both Friday and Saturday night at 7:05 pm.
