New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-Jordan Foote led the Scorpions to a 5-4 victory with two goals on Wednesday night. The win moved New Mexico to within two points of a playoff spot.
Jordan Foote scored on the game opening shift with a wraparound goal 26 seconds in. Halfway through the period Chris Robertson scored a shorthanded goal giving his team a 2-0 lead.
It was déjà vu in the second period. Foote notched his second goal of the game on the very first shift. Another shorthanded goal for the Scorps, this time by Seth Leonard made it a 4-0 game.
Amarillo got on the board when Sam Ftorek's slap shot quickly found its way to the back of the net. On the power play, Ftorek's shot was saved by Scorpions net minder Kyle McNulty. The rebound popped to Stuart MacRae who cut the Gorillas deficit to two.
Adam Knight pushed the Scorpions to a 5-2 edge 10:50 into the final frame. Amarillo showed no quit as Gordon Bell scored with just under five minutes remaining. MacRae got the Gorillas to within one as he tallied his second goal of the game.
The win gave New Mexico a three-game winning streak, their longest of the season. The Scorpions were held to under 30 shots for the fourth straight game, but have won three of those contests.
New Mexico heads to Odessa on Friday for a tilt with their rivals in Odessa. The game starts at 6:05 p.m. For the first time in over fours years, New Mexico will travel to face Tulsa on Saturday night.
