Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Broomfield, Colo. - Tonight's game, yet early in the season, may be an indicator that home ice has its advantages for the Rocky Mountain Rage hockey team. Rocky Mountain is 2-0 at home this season after earning a 5-2 victory over the Wichita Thunder tonight at the new Broomfield Event Center. Center Nick Warriner (2g, 2a) and left winger Mark Wires (4a) led the Rage with four points each.

The Rage improves to a 3-4-2 record, eight points and fourth place in the Northwest Division. Wichita drops to 5-4-1 on the season and maintains third place in the division.

Rocky Mountain got an early start on the game with a rebound goal by Warriner after Wires skated down the left wing firing in a shot from the stick side of Giffen. Wichita's Ryan McLean tied the game over two minutes later, but Rocky Mountain's Craig Olynick answered back with a score of his own.

The Rage dared to give themselves a two-goal lead by the end of the first. One of best scoring chances of the period came with a shot from Rage center Nick Warriner just to the glove side of Wichita goalie Dan Giffen, but the clock was against them as the shot went off with just tenths of a second remaining.

Rocky Mountain dominated the second period, despite not producing on the power-play. Rocky Mountain outshot the Thunder 17-5. Rage defenseman Kyle Kos jump-started the period with a goal at 1:21 off of passes from Adam Stefishen and Mark Wires. Rocky Mountain continued the scoring taking a 4-1 lead just under one minute later. Rage right winger John DiPace single-handedly skated the puck in the zone beating out Wichita's Joe Blaznek before being dragged down in front of the crease. Rocky Mountain's John Ronan put on the finishing touches tipping the puck in the net at 2:11. Warriner closed out the period by adding his second goal of the game at 17:05 and giving the Rage a 5-1 lead.

Roles reversed in the third period with Wichita outshooting the Rage 15-4, but Rage goaltender David Guerrera held Wichita to just one goal in the period.
