Rage Rallies For Shootout Win at Mississippi

(Southaven, MS) - The Rocky Mountain Rage rallied in the third period for a 4-3 shootout win over the Mississippi RiverKings Tuesday night at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven. The shootout loss still allowed the RiverKings to move one point closer to Northeast Division leader Bossier-Shreveport, who lost to Corpus Christi Tuesday night, as well.

Mississippi opened the scoring in the first period on a wrap-around goal scored by Joe Markusen at the 7:23 mark. Louis Dumont and Garrett Larson earned assists on the goal.

Rocky Mountain tied the contest with a power play goal from Daymen Rycroft, his 22nd goal of the year, eleven and a half minutes into the middle period of play.

Each team scored twice in the third period, with RiverKings' goals coming from Matt Pierce and the game-tying goal from Jeff Alcombrack at 17:11 of the final period. Rocky Mountain received third period goals from Colt King and Rycroft.

There was no scoring in the overtime period. Matt Summers scored the only goal in the shootout for Mississippi in the shootout, while King and Simon Watson answered for Rocky Mountain.

Mississippi dominated the shot clock by a 43-18 margin, with winning goaltender Scott Reid earning 40 saves. Kevin Beech took the shootout loss with 14 saves on 18 shots on goal.

The RiverKings remain in second place in the CHL Northeast Division with a 29-14-3 record for 61 points, one more than third-place Oklahoma City. The RiverKings are two points behind first-place Bossier-Shreveport.

The game was the first for new forward Martin Gascon, who arrived from Tulsa as part of a deal that brought him to Mississippi in exchange for future considerations.

Mississippi is on the road for a three-game road trip to Colorado over the weekend, beginning Friday night against the Eagles at 8:05 PM Central time. The RiverKings' next home game will be Friday, February 20th against Wichita, which will be LeBonheur "Locks of Love" night, presented by Wilson Perry Salon and Day Spa.
