Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (February 10)- The Texas Brahmas received a disappointing wakeup call Tuesday morning in the disguise as a 4-2 loss in Oklahoma City in a rare 10:35 AM faceoff.

On "Kids Day", the Brahmas found themselves two men down early due to a couple penalty calls on Brandon Benedict and Mike Vellinga. Oklahoma City tested goaltender David Cacciola with several shots before Ted Vandermeer found the back of the net at the 4:04 mark on the powerplay. Texas' Travis Banga came back onto the ice with vengeance as he followed up just 14 seconds later with his fifth goal of the season for the purple and black, tying the game 1-1. The Blazers continued to pepper shots at Cacciola, ultimately beating him twice more in the opening period for a 3-1 lead going into the intermission.

Texas came within one shot in the second when Brahmas spark plug Matt Burto beat Doug Groenestege for his second goal of the season off a tip from Kevin McLeod. Cacciola gave up one goal in the second, but kept the Blazers scoreless in the third. The Brahmas offense was unable to convert on two powerplay chances in the final period, including the remaining :53 seconds in the game with the extra attacker as Cacciola was pulled, losing 4-2.

The Brahmas will return to the NYTEX Sports Centre for back to back games Friday and Saturday against the Odessa Jackalopes. Friday is Ashley Furniture Youth Jersey Night; the first 1000 kids 12 and under will receive a free Brahmas youth jersey courtesy of Ashley. On Saturday, in recognition of St. Valentine's Day, ZuRoma Bar and Grill (located in the NYTEX Sports Centre) will feature couples dinners for a special rate before, during and after the Brahmas game. For ticket information please contact the Brahmas Box Office at (817) 336-4423.

* Forward Jason Deitsch was scratched for this morning's game. Matt Quinn went down with just 3:21 remaining in the second after awkwardly colliding into the boards and did not return to the game.
