
Rafters Rout Battle Jacks, Get First Win on the Road Trip

Wisconsin Rapids, WI - Wisconsin Rapids trounces Battle Creek in the second game of the series by winning 13-3. They out hit the Battle Jacks 12-7 and surely looked way different than last night.
The Rafters got going right from the jump in the 1st inning as Ty Johnson doubled to shallow left center. Shortly after, an error committed from their shortstop allowed Johnson to get home. The 2nd inning rolled around and the Rafters kept on attacking. Chris Conniff singled to center and Hugo walked. Brendan Bobo was due up and crushed a ball into deep right center field for his 3rd home run of the season. The Rafters quickly went up 4-0.
The Rats extended the lead once again in the 4th inning. Logan Hugo doubled to left field to put Johnson on 3rd. Garrett Broussard then hit a sac fly to send Johnson home. Indiana 3rd baseman Jorge De Goti, singled a ball into right field to bring Hugo across home plate. The Rafters did not stop as they scored 3 more runs in the top of the 7th. Conniff and Hugo were both hit by a pitch while Jensen got to 1st off an error. Bobo came through once again as he grounded out, but brought Conniff home. Utah Valley product, Garrett Broussard, smashed a ball to center field to bring Jensen and Hugo home.
Josh Howitt got the start on the mound and was dealing left and right. He went 4 innings allowing 1 hit and 6 strikeouts. The Battle Jacks had no answer for the Cal State Fullerton pitcher. The Rafters got 2 more runs in the 8th inning as Ty Johnson came through once again by singling to right field to bring De Goti and Conniff home. The score was 11-2 at the end of the 8th inning, but the Rats were not done yet. In the top of the 9th, Bobo hit his second home run of the game and this time it was a solo shot to left center field. He is tied for 1st on the team with homers. Rain started to pour at the end of the game, but by that time the Rats already secured the victory
Wisconsin Rapids elevated their game in all aspects today. They hit at a high efficiency, had terrific pitching, and made no errors on the defensive side of the ball. The Rafters split the series with Battle Creek and will head up to Traverse City tomorrow to take on the Pit Spitters. First pitch is scheduled at 7:05 E.T
