Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release

Kenosha, Wis.- The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters dropped their first game against Kenosha this season. They were out in front of the Kingfish for a good amount of the night, but the late innings were unkind to Wisconsin Rapids on Friday evening. The Rafters lost a three run lead in the last three innings as the Kingfish pick-up the comeback win 5-4 at Historic Simmons Field last night. Hunter Alexander (St. Johns River State) was the hero as he plated Jack Sundberg (UConn) for the winning run.

The Rafters will trot Derek Kawlewski (Rhode Island) out to the mound for the Saturday night game at Kenosha. Kawlewski, has a 2.16 ERA in 8.1 innings this summer. He threw seven quality innings against the Mallards in his last start, and was dynamic in a win against the Woodchucks back on opening night at Witter Field. On the mound for the Kingfish will be Paul Schuster JR. (SIUE). He comes into the game at 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in two starts for the Kingfish this summer. He got the no decision after his seven innings of two run baseball against Battle Creek on May 31st.

The visiting Rafters are currently battling for second place and look to get back their winning ways on Saturday night. The Rafters have added three new arms to the roster over this two game set. Harrison Hukari (Central Florida), David Calderon (Morehead State), and Craig Pearcy (Morehead State) have arrived to help bolster the Rafters pitching staff.

The Rafters will return home to Historic Witter Field tomorrow, as they begin a six game home-stand starting with a two game set against the Kalamazoo Growlers.
