Rafters Fall in Thunder Bay 5-3

Thunder Bay, ON- The Rafters were unable to come back from a five run deficit against the North Division Border Cats. Wisconsin Rapids rallied late, having the tying run on 2nd in the 9th inning, when the final out was recorded. Zach Thiac (Nicholls State) picked up his first win of the summer, while Brian Russell (College of Staten Island) took his third loss. Thunder Bay moves to 6-14 with the win, while the Rafters fall to 8-10 with the loss.

The Border Cats scored the first five runs of the ball game tonight. Jared James (Long Beach State) had a two hit day with a solo home run, a double, and two runs scored. Matt Batten (Quinnipiac) had a three hit game for Thunder Bay in the win. Thiac had his best outing of the summer throwing seven scoreless innings in his first Northwoods League win. All-Star Brock Carpenter (Seattle) had a double and a run scored for the visitors. Ryan Cleveland (Georgia Southern) had an RBI single on the night, while Zack Domingues (Long Beach State) and Beau Jordan (LSU) each had RBI's in the 9th to cut the deficit to two runs before Brock Carpenter struck out to end the game. Chris Falwell (Cisco College) and Dmitri Shytkher (Russia) both threw scorell inning out of the Rafters bullpen.
