July 23, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Kenosha Kingfish News Release
Battle Creek, MI -- The Kingfish defeated the Bombers 13-2 to claim victory in their first game following the All Star Break.
The three days of rest seemed to wake up the bats as the Kingfish offense exploded for thirteen runs. Jeremy Vasquez paced the Kingfish offense with a 3-4 performance, which included three runs batted in and two walks. Brody Westmoreleand continued his hot hitting ways with yet another multi-hit ball game (2-5) and both Eric Filia and Zack Weigel chipped in two hits apiece as well. Filia added three RBI of his own, and Jason Scholl tacked on another two to help power the Kingfish offense to victory.
Rico Garcia took the mound for the Kingfish and had another sharp looking start. He worked 6.0 IP and surrendered 2 ER off of 6 H. In typical Rico Garcia form, Garcia was able to strike out eight batters as well to help earn him the victory. Garrett McKenzie worked the seventh inning and Mario Samuel handled the eighth without letting up a single run. Newcomer Jake Perkins made his debut and took care of things in the ninth inning in order to finish off Battle Creek.
The victory marks just the second for the Kingfish against Battle Creek this season. The Kingfish will take on the Bombers again tomorrow evening before hosting Battle Creek for a two game series right after.
