Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, WI- The Green Bay Bullfrogs lost Game 1 of the series against the Lakeshore Chinooks 6-3 on Thursday night at Joannes Stadium in the first game back from the All-Star break.
Sam Brunner picked up the loss for Green Bay. He pitched five innings and allowed six runs on nine hits with two walks. His six strikeouts increased his team lead to 51.
Lakeshore put a run on the board in the top of the second inning with a fielder's choice hit to shortstop Jack Strunc. He flipped the ball to second baseman Ty Blankmeyer, whose throw was not in time to get Eric Fasnacht at first, as Doug Kraeger scored.
Zarley Zalewski knocked in a run with an RBI double in the third, but Brian Celsi hit a run-scoring double to left-centerfield in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit in half.
The Bullfrogs tied the game at 2 in the fourth with an RBI single for Logan Taylor to score Blankmeyer.
Lakeshore exploded for four runs in the fifth to take a 6-2 advantage. Following a double to begin the fifth, Lucas Raley singled up the middle to score Anthony Massicci and regained the lead for Lakeshore.
Colby Fitch tripled to deep centerfield to score Raley, which was followed by a two-out, two-run home run for Jake Romano, his second of the season.
The Bullfrogs had two base runners in the seventh and eighth innings, but they were stranded.
Green Bay reliever Connor Donovan threw two scoreless innings with four strikeouts, and newly-acquired Austin Hancock pitched a scoreless frame in his Bullfrogs debut. Luke VanLanen had runners on second and third with nobody out and was able to get out of the ninth inning without allowing a run.
Celsi tripled with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and scored on Desi Ammons' run-scoring single. Pinch-hitter Mason George grounded into a fielder's choice to second to end the game.
The Bullfrogs dropped to 33-22 on the season and 11-9 during the second half.
Green Bay will conclude the two-game series with the Chinooks Friday night for Christmas in July, featuring Dueling Pianos presented by Miller Lite.
