Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, Wis. - Following Tuesday's All-Star Game festivities in Wisconsin Rapids, field manager Donnie Scott and the Madison Mallards (12-7, 32-22) will begin the stretch run of their 2015 regular-season schedule Thursday against the La Crosse Loggers (13-8, 32-23) at the Duck Pond. Tonight's 7:05 p.m. contest will be the first of a key two-game home stand with the Loggers for the Mallards, who after their home series will begin a seven-day road trip this Saturday.
Tuesday's All-Star Game witnessed the South Division defeat its North Division counterparts by a final score of 3-1, with several Mallards players contributing to the victory. Anthony Gonsolin (St. Mary's College) drove in one run, Logan Regnier (Central Michigan) went 1-for-2 and Jean Ramirez (Illinois State) went hit-less across two at-bats. Mike Kaelin (Buffalo) tabbed a scoreless second inning, while Vince Arobio (Pacific) pitched 0.2 shutout frames with a strikeout.
Dalton D'Spain (Texas A&M Corpus Christi) will receive the call for the Mallards on the mound in tonight's series opener against La Crosse. D'Spain, who leads all Madison starting pitchers with 40 strikeouts this summer, enters Thursday with a 3-1 record and two consecutive winning decisions at Warner Park in 2015. Overall, the right-hander is 5-2 with a 4.01 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 40:20 strikeout-to-walk ratio in nine games (40.1 IP). Opponents have batted just .242 against him.
Entertainment for tonight's contest at the Duck Pond will include XPOGO, presented by Charter Communications, and Summerween post-game trick-or-treating on the field.
