Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release

Wisconsin Rapids, WI - After two one-run defeats on back-to-back nights against the Battle Creek Bombers (9-18, 23-39 overall), the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (8-20, 24-38 overall) dropped 13 runs on the Bombers behind 1,350 Witter Field faithful Saturday evening. Wisconsin Rapids led the whole way and rolled to their first victory in over a week, snapping a season-high seven game losing streak with a 13-4 victory.

Josh Cyr (JR, Univ. of North Alabama) ripped his fourth home run, a deep drive to right center field, in the first to put the Rafters on the board 2-0 off of Bombers' starter Dan Tyson. The Rafters scored eight off the left-hander from Northwestern in his 2.1 innings.

Cole Webb (SO, Valparaiso Univ.) cruised through the second and third innings, retiring eight straight from the end of the first through the third inning. In a four-run inning for Battle Creek in the fourth, however, Webb threw 35 pitches and had to be replaced by Northwoods League pitch-count rule.

Tommy Danczyk (SO, Univ. of Thomas Univ.) fired four scoreless innings in relief of Webb, shutting down the Bombers after the fourth. He scattered five hits, didn't walk a batter, and struck out four. In one inning, it took just three pitches to get out of the inning.

The Rafters piled it on the Bombers. Every Rafter reached, seven collected a hit, and four had multiple hits. Kenny Towns (FR, Univ. of Virginia) went three-for-five with a home run, two doubles, and knocked in five of the Rafters' 13 runs.

The win ties the Rafters' most wins in a season (24), set a season ago with eight games left. Tyson took the loss (2-3), while Danczyk (4-0) snagged the win.

The Rafters lead the season series against Battle Creek 4-3 with three left on the road next week against the Bombers.

Wisconsin Rapids travels to Wausau to take on the first place Wisconsin Woodchucks (24-3, 41-21 overall) for the first of a home-and-home series Sunday. First pitch from Athletic Park is scheduled for 5:05 pm.
