Green Bay Rockers News Release
For a second straight night, the Bullfrogs were walked-off on after a rally in the top of the ninth inning at Copeland Park, losing to the Loggers 3-2 on Saturday.
The game was dominated by starting pitchers early on. Taylor Black and La Crosse's TJ Kendzora battled it out, each holding their opponents scoreless through the first three innings.
La Crosse struck first in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 1-0 lead when Matt Chapman scored from third when Ryan Matranga's throw to second base on a Bobby Juan stolen base attempt sailed wide and into center field. The run was unearned to Black.
Black gave up an earned run on a solo home run by Loggers third baseman, Tyler Kuresa. La Crosse led 2-0 through five innings of play.
Taylor Petersen cut the Loggers lead in half just an inning later. Billy Moon scored from first on Petersen's double to right field, making the score 2-1 in favor of La Crosse.
The Loggers held the 2-1 lead until the top of the ninth inning. For the second consecutive night, the Bullfrogs staged a ninth inning rally. Whereas Friday night's rally was to take the lead, Saturday's rally tied the game. After his go-ahead single on Friday, Billy Moon drove home Brian Celsi with a seeing-eye single off of Loggers closer Jonathon Van Eaton, who leads the Northwoods League with 14 saves, to tie the game at 2-2.
However, for the second consecutive night, the magic ran out in the bottom of the ninth. The Loggers loaded the bases off of reliever Bud Jeter with one out. A suicide squeeze from DH Steven Palleres plated Rich Prigatano from third base, the Loggers walked-off again, this time notching a 3-2 victory.
The Loggers won the rubber match to win the series and remain one game ahead of Wisconsin for first place in the Northwoods League South.
Jeter (1-6) took the loss for the Bullfrogs. He gave up one earned run in 1.1 innings. In his last start with the Bullfrogs, Black went six complete innings and allowed one earned run. The Bullfrogs got a scoreless seventh from UW Whitewater's Matt Roberts.
The Bullfrogs are now 4-14 in one run games, and 30-32 overall on the season.
The Bullfrogs return home on Sunday to take on the Battle Creek Bombers. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 PM. Join us at Joannes Stadium for Family Fun in the Sundays presented by Star 98 and Nickelodeon Day. Tickets are still available.
