Mallards Look to End Road Trip with Series Win
August 4, 2012 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Madison Mallards News Release
Eau Claire, WI - August 4, 2012. The Madison Mallards (17-9, 33-28) wrap up their five game road trip tonight with the rubber match of their three game series against the Eau Claire Express (12-15, 23-38). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm.
On Friday the Express got a monster 4-for-4, six RBI night from third baseman Josh Scheffert (Nebraska) on their way to a 9-6 win over the Mallards. With the victory Express halted their seven game season series losing streak to the Mallards that began on June 10th.
Looking to get the Mallards back in the win column tonight is right-hander Trevor Foss (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi). In his last start, Foss (3-7) took the loss during a 7-1 defeat to the La Crosse Loggers (15-11, 40-21) on July 30th. The right-hander has been deadly from the mound, coming into tonight third in the Northwoods League with 63 strikeouts.
Left-hander Matt Trowbridge (Central Michigan) will make his 10th start of the season tonight for the Express. Trowbridge (3-2) is coming off his shortest outing of the season, a 3.0 inning stint in which he gave up four runs on five hits and four walks during an 11-5 loss to the Lakeshore Chinooks (14-12, 31-30). The lefty comes into tonight sporting a 5.03 ERA and 48 strikeouts compared to 30 walks.
Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better:
After Mallards center fielder John Welborn (Texas-San Antonio) earned Northwoods League Player of the Night with a 2-for-4, two home run night two nights ago, Scheffert followed up the next night to earn the honor with his stellar performance at the plate.
Roughed Up:
There is no question that the Express have struggled on the mound this season, coming into tonight with a South Division worst 5.02 ERA.
Up Next:
The Mallards return to the "Duck Pond" on Sunday, August 5th to start a five game series with the Chinooks. That night will be Marshfield Clinic Susan G. Komen for the Cure Night and Princess Millie Bobblehead Night at the ballpark.
The 2012 season is upon us! Single-game tickets are on-sale for all Mallards home games!
The Madison Mallards are part of the 16-team Northwoods League. The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other Summer Collegiate Baseball League in North America.
