Rochester Honkers News Release
(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers lost the finale of a three-game set with the Waterloo Bucks on Saturday night by a score of 3-1 in Waterloo, IA.
With the loss, the Honkers drop two out three games for the series against Waterloo.
The Bucks scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning without collecting a base hit. Honkers starter Nick Dolsky (DMACC) walked three total batters in the first frame, including one with the bases loaded to allow one Waterloo score. The Bucks scored another run on a sacrifice fly.
Despite the control issues, Dolsky pitched a solid 5.0 innings. The 6'8" right-hander allowed just two earned runs on one hit and five walks, while striking out four Waterloo batters. Dolsky was a victim of no run support, however, and he picked up the loss to move his record to 1-3.
The Honkers finally put a run on the board in the top of the seventh inning when left fielder Justin Parr (Illinois) hit his fourth home run of the season to make it a 2-1 ballgame. Parr went 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI on his solo home run.
An RBI single by Waterloo catcher Dan Sheppard (Iowa) in the seventh increased the Bucks lead to 3-1.
Honkers reliever Jordan Millbrath (Augustana) work 3.0 innings in relief of Dolsky and gave up one earned run on three hits and two walks. Millbrath also struck out five batters.
The Rochester offense left nine runners on base in the defeat.
Waterloo starter Connor Cline (St. John's MN) picked up the victory after pitching 5.2 innings of shutout baseball to improve his record to 2-3.
Rochester first baseman Cole Lankford (Texas A&M) went 2 for 4.
The Honkers (10-18, 25-38) are back home tomorrow, August 5th, to take on the Thunder Bay Border Cats (13-15, 29-34) at 1:05 PM at Mayo Field. Lefty Jared Miller (Vanderbilt) will start for the Honkers. In seven 2012 Northwoods League appearances, Miller is 3-3 with a 4.36 ERA.
On July 2nd, Miller tossed 7.0 innings of one-run baseball against the Border Cats in Thunder Bay, Canada to pick up his second win of the season in a 3-2 Honkers victory.
Starting for Thunder Bay will be lefty James Buckelew (Belmont), who is 3-3 in ten games with a 5.50 ERA.
