Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI- The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (19-16) had fireworks late but fell to the Green Bay Booyah (12-22) 6-2 on July 4th.
After a 1-2-3 inning, in the first, worked by Rafters Starter Wyatt Thompson, the Booyah scored one run in the second, third and fourth. The run in the fourth was a home run to right field off the bat of Preston Hall.
Booyah starter Evan Estridge had four 1-2-3 innings and allowed only two hits in six innings.
The Booyah's best offensive inning came in the sixth, where they had four straight singles off Donovan Brandl (Wisconsin Whitewater) that plated two.
In the seventh, the Rafters got the first three base runners on, with two singles and a fielder's choice to end Estridge's day. A bases-loaded walk by Angelo D'Acunto (Holy Cross) brought home a run. Andrew Duran (New Orleans) came up next and lined out to reliever Boston Habeus, who threw over to first to end the threat.
The Rafters again loaded the bases in the eighth, but a flyout ended the inning. The Booyah added a sixth run in the ninth, off an RBI single, to bring the score to 6-1.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Rafters had three singles, the third an RBI for McKinley Erves (LaGrange), who now has a 10-game hit streak. With the bases loaded and two outs, Elijah Dickerson (La Salle) stepped up to the plate with the Rafters down four. He rocketed a ball to centerfield that was caught on the warning track.
In total, Wisconsin Rapids left eight runners in scoring position.
The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters head to Ashwaubenon tomorrow afternoon. They play the second game of a home and home against the Booyah with first pitch at 12:05 p.m. It is the final game of the first half of the season. You can listen to the game on WFHR AM 1320.
