Duluth Huskies News Release

Duluth, Minn. - The Duluth Huskies began their home series against the Rochester Honkers on the Fourth of July and improved their overall record to 12-21 with a 4-2 win. With the second half quickly approaching, it was a pleasing sight to see the Huskies potentially play their most complete game of the season.

Will McEntire (2-0) got the holiday nod and massively improved over his last start in which he lasted 3.1 IP and allowed three runs over eight hits against Bismarck. In the matinee showdown, the righty from Arkansas delivered a fantastic line of 6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER and 5 K. He was backed by Eli Sundquist (SV-3) out of the bullpen. In Eli's tenth appearance of the season, he finished the game with a cool stat line of 3.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, and 7 K. He improved his team leading strikeout count to 39, good for fourth overall in the Northwoods League. He earned his third save of the season.

Duluth was spotlighted at the plate by Peyton Powell, who arrived yesterday from the University of Texas. Known for his cut at the plate, he was 2-for-3 with a 2-RBI single in the 5th inning to give them the lead for good. The Huskies scored four unanswered runs after the Honkers put up a two-spot in the 2nd inning. Beau Wimpee added the other two RBIs of the game on two different SAC flies, one scoring Peyton Powell and the other plating Ambren Voitik.

The Huskies and Honkers will square off for the fourth time this season tomorrow night at Wade Stadium when Duluth will look for their second total sweep of the season and to even the yearlong series with Rochester. Missouri's lefty, Cade Griffin (1-2) will start for Duluth.
