Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Sugar Land, TX - The Tacoma Rainiers (28-43) lost a 3-2 heartbreaker on Sunday evening to the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (32-40), with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth. The Rainiers dropped the six-game series in suburban Houston by a 4-2 count, losing the final three games over the weekend following consecutive victories on Wednesday and Thursday. The season series has also concluded between the clubs, with the Space Cowboys winning nine of 12.
Sugar Land opened scoring in the second inning with a David Hensley double, which plated Lewis Brinson (HBP). Alex De Goti followed with a single to left that brought Hensley home for a 2-0 lead.
Tacoma got on the board in the fifth with a two out rally. Miguel Perez dropped a single into centerfield, and scored on an Alex Blandino triple to left. The 15th Rainiers triple this season made it a 2-1 game.
Trailing by that same score in the eighth, Tacoma tied it. Mason McCoy led off with a single, and moved to third on Erick Mejia's second double, to left field. Marcus Wilson lifted a sac fly to left with one out for the second Rainiers run.
With the score still squared in the home ninth, De Goti launched his seventh homer of the season to left-center, with one out and the bases empty to win it.
Space Cowboys RHP Chad Donato worked six complete innings in a no-decision: 3 H, 1 R/ER, 2 BB, 4 K.
The Rainiers are off on Monday, and will open a six-game homestand against the Salt Lake Bees on Tuesday. RHP Konner Wade is Tacoma's scheduled starter, opposite lefty Jake Kalish of Salt Lake, a 6:05 p.m. PT first pitch at Cheney Stadium.
Rainiers broadcaster Mike Curto will have full coverage on TacomaRainiers.com. All 2022 Rainiers games, home and away, can also be heard for free on the MiLB First Pitch app. HD video broadcasts of every home game can be viewed with a MiLB.TV subscription.
