Today's Game: The Oklahoma City Dodgers and Round Rock Express close out their six-game series at 2:05 p.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The Dodgers lead the series, 3-2, and try to avoid their first back-to-back losses this month...The Dodgers currently own a four-game lead ahead of second-place El Paso atop the East Division.
Last Game: The Round Rock Express scored seven runs in the second inning as they sent the Oklahoma City Dodgers to an 8-3 loss Saturday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Six of the seven runs by the Express scored with two outs in the inning, including a bases-loaded walk, a two-run single by Diosbel Arias and three-run homer by Sam Huff. The Dodgers were held without a hit until the fourth inning when Jason Martin hit his 11th home run of the season. The Dodgers scored a run on a wild pitch in the fifth inning. Michael Busch added a solo homer in the sixth inning trimming the Express lead to four runs before Round Rock scored again in the ninth inning.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Justin Hagenman (3-1) makes his first start and 17th appearance with the OKC Dodgers today...Today will be his first start since Aug. 24, 2021 with Double-A Tulsa and fourth start of his pro career...Hagenman most recently pitched Thursday against Round Rock, tossing two-thirds of an inning and allowing one walk with one strikeout... He has allowed one earned run over his last four outings (3.2 IP) as well as three hits and two walks with six strikeouts...Hagenman joined OKC April 26 for his first career Triple-A stint after logging five relief appearances with Double-A Tulsa to start the season...He pitched a season-high 2.2 innings April 19 with Tulsa at Springfield...He recorded a season-high four K's April 15 with Tulsa and April 26 with OKC...Hagenman spent the entire 2021 season with Tulsa, posting a 7-4 record and 3.45 ERA with six saves in 38 appearances (two starts)...Hagenman was selected by the Dodgers in the 23rd round of the 2018 MLB Draft from Penn State...He has made five appearances against the Express this season, going 2-1 and allowing seven hits and eight runs over 5.1 innings with six walks and six strikeouts.
Against the Express: 2022: 11-6 2021: 16-13 All-time: 157-127 At OKC: 72-63 The Dodgers and Express play their third series of the season and third in seven weeks, but first of 2022 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark...The Dodgers entered this series with an 8-4 record in the season series to date, most recently winning a six-game set at Dell Diamond, 4-2, May 31-June 5. The teams exchanged shutouts in their first two games of the last series and the Dodgers posted wins in three of the last four meetings...Through the first 16 games of the season between the teams, Miguel Vargas has a team-best 25 hits and 18 RBI...The teams had a wild first series in Round Rock May 10-15, which OKC won, 4-2, winning four straight games in the middle of the series. OKC recorded its largest shutout win in the team's Bricktown era (since 1998) with a 19-0 victory May 12 and Yefry Ramírez became the first OKC Dodger and first pitcher throughout the entire PCL to throw a nine-inning shutout since 2018. Six different players homered in that same game for the first time in the team's Bricktown era. In series finale May 15, OKC lost a game when scoring at least 13 runs for just the fifth time during the team's Bricktown era and for the first time since 2007, as Round Rock won, 14-13...The Dodgers have won five of the last six season series between the teams.
Life At the Top: The Dodgers own the best record in the Pacific Coast League and can match their season-high mark of 18 games above .500 with a win today...OKC lost last night but has not lost consecutive games since losing three in a row May 26-27 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark (two games on May 26). Entering today, the Dodgers have followed up each of their last eight losses with a win in the next game...OKC has won seven of their last 10 games, nine of the last 13 games and 13 of the last 18 games. They have also won eight of their last 11 home games...OKC has won four straight series and is 9-1-3 through their first 13 series of the season, with their lone series loss going to Reno in OKC in late May. The Dodgers can do no worse than split the current series and can win the series with a victory today. This season when playing for a series win in the series finale, the Dodgers are 5-2.
Seven Down: The seven runs scored by the Express in the second inning last night tied the most runs allowed by the Dodgers in an inning this season, previously done in the third inning April 12 at El Paso. OKC has now allowed five or more runs in an inning nine times this season...Prior to that inning, the Dodgers had allowed 10 runs total over the first four games of the series and OKC had held opponents to three runs or less in four of the previous six games...In 12 of the last 13 games, the Dodgers have either allowed three or fewer runs (six times) or seven or more runs (six times). They only time an opponent scored between four and six runs during that span was when Round Rock finished with five runs in Thursday's game.
Busch League: Last night Michael Busch hit his third homer of the current series and fifth homer in his last 10 games. He now has 18 total homers overall between Double-A Tulsa and Oklahoma City to lead all Dodgers minor leaguers, and he is tied with Jason Martin for the most homers by an OKC player this month...Busch went 1-for-3 Saturday with a homer and walk, and since June 7, Busch has hit safely in 14 of 16 games and is 19-for-65 (.292) with five doubles, five homers, 14 RBI and 15 runs scored...Over his last 13 games, Busch is 16-for-52 (.308) with nine extra-base hits. He's tallied at least one extra-base hit in eight of his last 11 games...His five home runs since June 14 are the most among all Triple-A players.
Clearance at JMart: Yesterday Jason Martin hit his fifth homer of the month of June - tied with Michael Busch for the most among OKC players this month - and his 11 home runs this season are tied for second on the team...Martin has now picked up at least one RBI in 10 of his last 13 games (16 RBI) and has hit safely in 13 of the last 15 games, batting .321 (18x56) with five home runs, two triples, four doubles and 17 RBI, nine walks and 13 runs scored...Martin ranks tied for first in the league with five triples, while his 46 runs scored are tied for fourth and his 30 extra-base hits are fifth. His 48 RBI and .555 SLG each rank sixth in the league.
Gettin' Miggy With It: Miguel Vargas extended his hitting streak to eight games Saturday, going 1-for-4, and is now 12-for-31 (.387) during the stretch with six RBI, six walks and five runs scored. He is in the midst of his fourth hitting streak of the season of at least seven games, with his season-high being a 10-game streak May 28-June 9...Against Round Rock this season, Vargas has 25 hits and 18 RBI in 17 games and is slashing .357/.430/.600...Vargas leads the PCL with 58 runs scored this season and ranks second with 132 total bases and 78 hits. His 40 walks rank third.
On the Lamb: Jake Lamb's career-best hitting streak of 14 games came to an end last night as he was held 0-for-4. During the stretch, he went 21-for-54 (.389) with three homers, seven doubles, 14 RBI and 12 runs scored. The streak was the longest by a Dodgers player this season and longest hitting streak by an OKC Dodgers player since Edwin Ríos hit safely in 14 straight games in August 2019...Saturday also snapped Lamb's streak of reaching base at 18 games, falling one game short of Miguel Vargas' team-best 19-game on-base streak earlier this season. Including last night, Lamb has now reached base in 28 of his last 30 games and in 43 of his last 46 games. Since April 24 (46 games), Lamb is slashing .324/.435/.606 with 12 homers, 12 doubles, 33 walks, 41 RBI and 35 runs scored...Lamb leads the Dodgers with 15 home runs and tied for the team lead with 50 RBI. His RBI and home run totals rank tied for third in the PCL while his 39 walks are tied for fourth in the league.
Drew Point: Drew Avans recorded a hit and walk Saturday night, as he has reached base in 26 of his last 27 games with a plate appearance. Since May 26 (26 games), Avans is slashing .330/.455/.534 with 29 hits, 24 runs, 18 walks and 14 RBI. He has hit safely in 10 of his last 12 games (15x45)...In June (21 games), Avans leads the team with 21 runs and 13 walks while his 25 hits are tied for the team lead.
Walkabout: Dodgers pitchers issued 10 walks Saturday, marking the sixth time this season they've allowed double-digit walks. They have allowed at least seven walks in seven of last 13 games (76 BB). The team is third among all Triple-A clubs in walks allowed this season (340)...On the flipside, the Dodgers' offense leads all of Triple-A in walks with 352, but they were held to three walks Saturday and have drawn a total of five walks over the last two games.
Dinger Details: The Dodgers have now hit a home run in 12 of the last 13 games (19 HR) and in 18 of the last 20 games (29 HR)...Round Rock has hit two home runs each of the last two nights. It's just the second time since April 20 (57 games) an opponent has hit two or more homers in consecutive games and the first time it's happened at home this season (38 games). The only time OKC has allowed multiple home runs in three straight games was April 12-14 at El Paso.
Summer Days: Today marks the Dodgers' last home day game at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark until September. After today, OKC only has two day games over the next two months, both on the road...The Dodgers are 9-8 in day games this season, including 3-1 in the last four. They are 5-4 at home under the sun this season...In each of the Dodgers' five Sunday day games at home, the winning team has scored eight or more runs and the teams have combined for 86 runs (17.2 rpg).
Around the Horn: The Dodgers lead all of Triple-A with 352 walks, while their 457 runs scored and .369 OBP each rank second among the 30 teams and their .458 SLG and .827 OPS are both third...Ty Kelly hit Oklahoma City's Triple-A-leading 26th triple of the season last night. The Dodgers have already surpassed their 2021 total for triples (23), which was the lowest total for triples in the PCL last season...Ryan Noda collected his team-leading 41st walk of the season yesterday and his walk total ranks second in the PCL...Today is relief pitcher Justin Bruihl's 25th birthday.
