Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Adelanto, CA - Manny Flores turned in six solid innings, helping the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes shut down the High Desert Mavericks in a 4-2 win at Mavericks Stadium.
Flores (3-4) gave up a pair of unearned runs on two hits in the first inning, then allowed just five hits over five scoreless innings the rest of the way, giving his offense, which scored a franchise-record 23 runs the night prior, a chance to get going.
Leading 2-0 in the second, Mavs' starter Anthony Vasquez walked Clay Fuller with two outs. Angel Castillo followed with a two-run blast to left-center field, his third homer in the last two games and ninth of the year, knotting the game at 2-2.
The Quakes took the lead for good against Vasquez (5-3) in the third, as Jesus Campos ripped his first homer as a professional, a fly ball that cleared the fence in left field for a 3-2 Rancho Cucamonga lead.
Campos reached on a Shaver Hanson throwing error in the fifth, then scored an important insurance run, as Alberto Rosario doubled him home with two outs, putting the Quakes up by two at 4-2.
Flores departed after six innings, turning it over to Christian Scholl, who didn't allow a hit or a walk over two scoreless innings.
Scholl's strong relief effort was followed by Eddie McKiernan, who fired a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his 15th save of the year.
The Quakes (7-6, 46-37) have now won two straight and five of their last six overall. They continue their current six-game road trip on Wednesday night, with the opening game of a three-game series in Lancaster. Right-hander Orangel Arenas (2-1) takes on lefty Dallas Keuchel (4-6) in the opening game, with first pitch slated for 7:00pm.
The Quakes return from the six-game road trip this Saturday night, opening up a three-game series against High Desert at The Epicenter. July 10th is Millennium Systems Fireworks Night, as everyone will enjoy a post-game Fireworks Display, thanks to Millennium Systems and KOLA 99.9.
