High Desert Mavericks News Release

The last couple of years, the Mavericks have been part of the wrong end of some history in a few games at Mavericks. Monday night they fell 23-8 to Rancho Cucamonga, as the Quakes became just the second team in California League history to score in all nine innings.

They Quakes put up at least four runs in an inning four times, including five in the first. They plated two in the seventh and scored single tallies in the second, fifth, sixth, and ninth. The only other time such thing occurred in the league happened June 30, 2008 when San Jose scored every inning in a 12-2 win at Bakersfield.

Rancho Cucamonga had 26 hits, collected at least two in all but one inning. They had 13 extra-base hits, including six home runs.

All nine members of the starting lineup had two hits and eight of nine had at least one RBI. Angel Castillo and Clay Fuller each led the way with four hits apiece. Castillo hit two homers, totaling for RBI's.

Gabe Jacobo went 3-for-6 and drove in six runs. Jacobo knocked a grand slam in the eighth inning and fell a double shy of the cycle.

The Quakes had 10 runs and 11 hits on the board before the Mavericks scored. The Mavs put up four in the third for their biggest inning of the night, punctuated by a mammoth three-run homer by Dennis Raben.

Raben and Denny Almonte each hit two homers, to score six of the Mavericks eight runs. Raben also hit a solo homer in the ninth, while Almonte hit solo shots in the fourth and sixth.

Every time the Mavericks would score and try to jump start a comeback, the Quakes always had an answer. After pulling within 16-7 in the sixth, the Quakes scored seven unanswered runs to go up 23-7.

Despite not having a great night, Matt Shoemaker used the copious run support to his advantage to earn the win. Shoemaker (7-6) allowed seven runs and 12 hits over six innings.

Each of the five Mavericks pitchers surrendered a run. Starter Andrew Carraway (5-5) was roughed up, allowing 10 runs and 11 hits in just 2.1 innings.

The Mavs will look to bounce back and take the series from the Quakes when they meet Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. It's another Kraft Singles Tuesday, where you can turn in any Kraft Singles wrapper for a buy one, get one free ticket deal from the Mavericks. You can always purchase tickets by calling 246-MAVS or ordering at www.hdmavs.com.
