Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Quakes lost their share of first place on Tuesday night, falling to the Lake Elsinore Storm 7-3 here at the Epicenter. The loss puts the Quakes one game behind the High Desert Mavericks in the California League South standings.
A four-run eighth inning broke open a close game as Allan Dykstra went long on Baudilio Lopez with a three-run shot that put the Storm up 7-1.
Lake Elsinore never trailed in the game, jumping on the Quakes early as starter Manny Flores (4-7) loaded the bases in the first with an infield base hit and two walks. Cody Decker followed with a double-play ball, scoring Brad Chalk to put the Storm ahead 1-0.
The Storm added another run in the fourth as Flores walked Decker, his season-high fourth batter of the night. Robert Lara followed with a double, driving in Decker to make it 2-0.
The Quakes pulled within a run in the sixth, as Mike Trout drove his second home run over the left-center field wall to lead off the inning against Storm starter and eventual winner Jeremy McBryde (2-3). Trailing 2-1, Alberto Rosario followed with a triple, but McBryde stranded the tying run at third, as the next three batters couldn't get the ball out of the infield.
Brian Stokes, one of two Angels on a current rehab assignment with the Quakes, came to the mound in the seventh and allowed a run on a two-out RBI double off the bat of Bo Davis, increasing the Storm's lead to 3-1.
Halo's reliever Jason Bulger took the hill in the eighth and was tagged with two of the four runs scored in the inning. Bulger gave up a two-out double to Cody Decker, followed by an RBI single to Robert Lara, making it 4-1. Baudilio Lopez replaced Bulger after just 2/3 of an inning, walking Daniel Robertson and allowing the home run to Dykstra that put the Storm out of reach at 7-1.
Rancho Cucamonga managed a run in the bottom of the eighth with a sacrifice fly from Rosario that pulled the Quakes to within five at 7-2.
Luis Jimenez tried to start a rally in the bottom of the ninth with a solo homer to left, his eighth of the year to make it a 7-3 game. Storm reliever Nick Vincent settled down and retired the next three batters to end the game.
The Quakes (21-17, 60-48) meet the Storm again on Wednesday night, in the second game of a three-game set. Kyle Hurst (1-2) will take the hill for the Quakes against righthander Anthony Bass (7-5) in the 7:05pm start.
