SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes fell to Houston Dynamo FC 2-1 on Sunday evening at PayPal Park. The loss, which was San Jose's first at home since the season opener on Feb. 26, snaps the club's eight-match unbeaten streak at PayPal Park.

Following a scoreless first half, the Earthquakes broke through in the 53rd minute courtesy of team captain Jackson Yueill. Cristian Espinoza played a free kick into the box, which was headed goalward by Tommy Thompson. The slow, looping ball bounced off the crossbar before falling to Yueill for the first-timed finish.

Houston then scored the equalizer in the 71st minute.

San Jose appeared to re-gain the lead when Jeremy Ebobisse's right-footed shot from close range beat goalkeeper Steve Clark, but a last-ditch goal-line clearance kept the score tied. Houston then took the lead moments later through Thor Ulfarsson.

Despite several opportunities to find an equalizer late in the match, the Quakes couldn't find a second goal.

The Earthquakes will now prepare to host Spain's RC Celta de Vigo in an international friendly on Wednesday, July 20. The match will kick off from PayPal Park at 7:30 p.m. PT and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
