Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
San Bernardino, CA - It took an extra inning, but the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes were able to sneak past Inland Empire on Wednesday afternoon, and take game two of the series, 2-1.
Julian Leon had three hits, including the game-winner, as Rancho dropped Inland Empire for a fifth straight time.
The Quakes had to come from behind, as the 66ers struck first. In the fourth inning, Caleb Adams and Jose Briceno hit back-to-back singles, with Adams going first to third on Briceno's hit. As Adams took third, Briceno alertly moved up on the throw to put runners on second and third with nobody out. Adams then scored after Taylor Ward hit into a fielder's choice, making it 1-0, with Briceno being thrown out trying to get to third.
The game stayed that way until the sixth. Leon led off the inning with a double, and Jordan Tarsovich knocked him in with an RBI single to tie the game at one. Until that point, 66ers starter Tyler Carpenter had faced the minimum Quakes hitters through five innings.
The score remained 1-1 until the tenth inning, when Inland Empire and Rancho Cucamonga engaged in their first extra-innings affair of the season. Kyle Garlick led things off with a single off of 66ers reliever Jose Molina, and Matt Beaty walked to put runners on first and second. Then, Leon hit his second double of the game to bring home Garlick to win it for Rancho.
Scott Griggs came on to earn his third save of the year in the bottom of the tenth inning. Luis De Paula (1-1), earned the win after pitching a scoreless ninth inning. Starter Josh Sborz earned the no-decision after pitching six innings of one-run ball.
Molina (0-1) takes the loss for Inland Empire. 66ers starter Carpenter was outstanding, going eight innings and allowing just five hits and one earned run. He walked none and struck out seven in the no-decision, moving his ERA to 0.69.
With the win, the Quakes improve to 13-7, while Inland Empire drops to 5-15. Andrew Sopko makes the start for Rancho Cucamonga in game three of the series on Thursday; he is 1-0 with a 2.79 ERA through three starts. Thursday's game is a 7:05 p.m. start in San Bernardino.
The Quakes return home on Friday, April 29th to welcome the High Desert Mavericks to town for another Family RV $1 Family Feast Night. Join us for $1 Hot Dogs, Pepsi Products and Ice Cream Sandwiches throughout the night, thanks to Family RV. Tickets are available at (909) 481-5000 or at rcquakes.com.
