Visalia Rawhide News Release

VISALIA, CA - The Visalia Rawhide (12-6, 12-6) earned a bizarre 5-4, ten inning victory over the Modesto Nuts (8-10, 8-10) when Modesto's catcher Dom Nunez failed to touch home plate with the bases loaded, allowing the winning run to score.

After RHP Bud Jeter (4-0, 0.87) pitched a scoreless top of the tenth, stranding a pair of nuts on the base paths, 2B Henry Castillo doubled in the bottom half against RHP Logan Cozart (0-2, 0.90). 3B Dawel Lugo followed with an infield single and after a groundout moved up both runners, pinch hitter Cody Regis was intentionally walked. RF Victor Reyes hit a hard ground ball to the 2B Forrest Wall, who came home with it. Nunez, the catcher, was ruled not to have touched home plate and Castillo scored the game winner.

Visalia jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Castillo walked in the second. Lugo sent him home with an RBI triple against Modesto starter LHP Sam Howard.

It remained 1-0 Rawhide until the fifth inning when the home run bug bit Visalia starter RHP Brad Keller. 3B Shane Hoelscher reached on an infield single and then 1B Colin Ferguson hit a two-run home run that gave Modesto a 2-1 lead. After SS Emerson Jimenez reach on an error, Wall then planted one over the wall in right-centerfield for a 4-1 Nuts lead.

Visalia tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. CF Colin Bray reached in a fielder's choice ball and SS Domingo Leyba chased him to the plate with an RBI double before 1B Rudy Flores hit a two-run homer to tie it at 4-4.

Howard, for Modesto, pitched five innings and allowed four runs (all earned) on six hits, two walks and he struck out six while Keller pitched seven innings for the second consecutive start, allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits, a walk and he struck out three.

Jeter pitched one inning and allowed two hits and picked up one strikeout while earning his California League leading fourth win to no loses.

Tomorrow night Visalia will try to make it three in a row and win the series against the Nuts when LHP Josh Taylor (0-2, 6.87) of Visalia goes up against RHP Carlos Polanco (0-1, 4.77) of Modesto in another 6:00 p.m. clash at Recreation Ballpark.
