Quad City Steamwheelers News Release
The Quad City Steamwheelers, defending Champions of the IFL's Eastern Conference, have signed defensive lineman Sam Hammond.
During his 5 years at the University of Nevada, Hammond produced 124 tackles (69 solo) and 13 sacks.
Director of Player Personnel and Defensive Assistant Coach Ryan Michael told SteamwheelersFootball.com: "Sam is a dominant presence along the defensive line. His ability to combine methodical footwork with elite upper body strength has allowed him to create havoc for opposing quarterbacks. When he hits you, you feel it and it forces coaches to structure their game plans around avoiding his side of the football field."
Hammond's NCAA experience includes 3 different Bowl games and a regular season matchup vs. Justin Herbert and Oregon.
The signing adds another layer to the Steamwheelers defensive line, following the additions of Jaylin Swan, Krystapher Oakley, Raekwon Jefferson, Lionell Wiggins and Teon Burroughs.
"He has the length you need to be very dangerous in this league as an edge rusher. We are excited to add someone of his size to the lineup. His underdog story will make you love him more! We can't wait to see what he brings to camp!" said Steamwheelers Head Coach Cory Ross.
