
Northern Arizona Wranglers Sign Defensive Back Da'Quan Lewis

Lewis, 6'1", 175 lbs., will be playing his first season as a professional, in the Indoor Football League, with the Wranglers. Lewis began his collegiate career at Alderson Broaddus University, which is located in Philippi, W. Va. Lewis was extremely successful on the field, from day one, for the Battlers, earning himself the selection for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) Freshman Player of the Year. Lewis also earned a spot on the All-GMAC First Team squad as a freshman. During his sophomore season, Lewis was named to the ALL-GMAC Second Team.
After his sophomore season, Lewis decided to transfer to Virginia State University, in Petersburg, Va. In his collegiate career, Lewis started in 23 games, and racked up 50 tackles, four interceptions, 14 passes defended, three-and-a-half tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. Lewis graduated from Virginia State University with his bachelor's degree in mass communications.
Lewis is originally from Hampton, Va., where he played football at Phoebus High School. Lewis started playing football as a young kid with his friends in the neighborhood. Lewis stated, "I was playing football before I was old enough to even play football," referring to his days in the neighborhood, before he was able to sign up for a youth league. Lewis added to this statement by saying, "It was always my dream to play football professionally." Lewis cited his family as his inspiration to continue playing football. Lewis explained that his family wants to see his dreams come true, and that they motivate him to continue working hard.
When addressing Wranglers Nation, Lewis stated that he is excited to be a part of a Championship team. Lewis said, "Coach [Les] Moss has been a winner at every stage of his coaching career." Lewis also stated, "I have been tapped into the games in NAZ, the fanbase looks as big and energetic as any fans in the league." Lewis has taken notice to the great atmosphere at the Wranglers games that the fans create. Lewis expanded by stating, "I can't wait to play in that atmosphere, meet my teammates and get to work."
