Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
DUBUQUE, IA - Fighting Saints forward Erik Påhlsson has announced his college commitment to play Division I hockey for the University of Minnesota.
Påhlsson currently leads the USHL with 19 points after scoring in the third period of Saturday's comeback-win over Waterloo.
In half of the Fighting Saints' 12 games this season, Påhlsson has recorded multiple points. He has only been held off the scoresheet in two of those 12 contests and has led the team in points virtually the entire season thus far.
"It's very exciting to commit to play for the Gophers," said Påhlsson. "It is a school and a team with a great history and it's super cool to be a part of that. Being in Dubuque has been good for me to take the next step in my development. I'm very grateful for the help I have gotten from Kalle and my coaches in the process of committing to Minnesota."
Påhlsson has proven to be effective for the Saints in all zones, not just offensively. A native of Sweden, Påhlsson plays on the power play and penalty kill regularly for Dubuque. In the win over Waterloo on Saturday, his defensive zone faceoff win clinched the victory for the Saints.
"Erik handled the recruiting process with a great deal of maturity, and has continued to play at an extremely high level while making his decision," said head coach Kirk MacDonald. "We are excited that he chose to attend the University of Minnesota and look forward to watching him continue to develop."
Påhlsson's commitment to Minnesota means he will join one of college hockey's top conferences: the Big Ten. He is set to join teammates Noah Powell and Charlie Arend in the Big Ten as they are both committed to Ohio State.
