Toronto FC announced Wednesday that a special Toronto FC Insider pre-sale ticket window for the club's international friendly versus Tottenham Hotspur F.C. will be available on Thursday, May 1. Fans can join by registering at http://www.torontofc.ca/insider-sign-up . Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, May 2 and can be purchased online at www.torontofc.ca or via telephone at 416-360-GOAL (4625).
The match, being put on by Toronto FC, in conjunction with Tottenham Hotspur F.C., will be the first encounter between the two clubs, and Jermain Defoe's first match against his former club since joining Toronto FC in January. The match will take place at BMO Field on Wednesday, July 23 at 7 p.m. ET.
"Playing a friendly match against Tottenham is going to be special," said Toronto FC forward Jermain Defoe. "I spent the majority of my career there, and have great admiration for the club. I have a lot of friends still playing for Tottenham and I'm really looking forward to seeing them and playing against them this summer in Toronto."
Originally announced in January, the match is part of the Jermain Defoe transfer agreement between the two clubs, Tottenham, Toronto FC and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE). The groups agreed to a groundbreaking, four-year Advertising Rights Agreement that will see Toronto FC and MLSE provide promotional and branding opportunities, experiential activities and advertising, broadcasting, social media and digital rights across all of MLSE's properties and media platforms. Additionally, MLSE will carry Tottenham Hotspur F.C. official merchandise at their retail outlets, as well as support the THFC Official Canadian Supporter's Club.
Tottenham will visit Canada and the United States this summer as part of the club's 2014 preseason tour ahead of the 2014/15 Barclays Premier League campaign. The tour features stops in Seattle (July 16-19), Toronto (July 20-23), and concludes in Chicago (July 24-26).
Founded in 1882, the Spurs are one of the world's most recognized clubs in the Premier League and in European competition. The Spurs have won two English First Division titles, eight FA Cup titles, seven FA Community Shields, four League Cups, one European Cup/UEFA Champions League, and two UEFA Cup /Europa League titles.
