COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Wednesday, April 30, 2014) - The Colorado Rapids and Coca-Cola will celebrate Military Appreciation Night this Saturday, May 3 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park for the match against the LA Galaxy. Among the special events to honor and celebrate members of the United States Armed Forces will be the presentation of a $10,000 check to the Rocky Mountain USO.
"Military Appreciation Night is one of the most special games of the year for everyone at the Rapids and Kroenke Sports & Entertainment," said Rapids President Tim Hinchey. "We're honored to welcome so many members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families, and always appreciate the fan support we receive at this event. We are looking forward to a very special night this Saturday."
The presentation of a $10,000 check to the Rocky Mountain USO representative Linda Lorenzana takes place immediately prior to kickoff and will include Kroenke Sports & Entertainment Executive VP & Chief Operating Officer Matt Hutchings and Swire Coca-Cola President & CEO Jack Pelo, as well as a member of each branch of the US Armed Forces.
There will be several tributes to the U.S. Armed Forces throughout the match, including a pregame color guard with members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines, Army National Guard, and the Air National Guard, and the national anthem sung by Sergeant Ron McKay of the Colorado National Guard. At halftime, the Rapids will welcome Colonel Angela Stowell of the Colorado National Guard, who will conduct a swearing-in ceremony of nearly 100 recruits.
Prior to the match, fans can visit Soccer Fest outside the south end of the stadium for games and giveaways, and will also be able to interact with two "Ricky the Recruiter" inflatable mascots, and explore military vehicles. Several other special events will occur throughout the game day.
