Midland RockHounds News Release

Renato Nunez hit a two-run homer - his first since returning from the disabled list - in the second inning of the RockHounds' 17-6 loss to the Corpus Christi Hooks on Friday night at Security Bank Ballpark. (Frank Longobardo / Midland RockHounds)

Here is a "Cliff Notes" version of how the RockHounds' night went Friday at Security Bank Ballpark.

- In the home half of the second inning, Renato Nuñez hit a monstrous, two-run home run onto the grass berm behind the high wall in deep left-center field, giving the 'Hounds a 3-0 lead.

- With two out in the home half of the ninth, Renato (a) broke his bat on a foul ball, (b) got a new bat and (c) promptly broke that bat on the next pitch, one on which he grounded out to third, ending the game with the score Corpus Christi 17, RockHounds 6.

With the win, the Hooks gained a split of the four-game series, the final meeting in the regular season between the clubs. Games one and two saw each club rally in the eighth inning for a comeback win, followed by a pair of blowouts (the 'Hounds won, 10-1, Thursday).

The RockHounds still solidly control their own destiny (see "Stat of the Day," below), but the Hooks didn't allow a celebration "on their watch." The 'Hounds and Corpus will meet in the South Division Championship Series, but the second half title is still a work in progress.
