Travs Begin Trip with 7-3 Win at NWA

Springdale, AR - The Arkansas Travelers began a seven-game roadtrip with a 7-3 win over the Northwest Arkansas Naturals on Saturday night at Arvest Ballpark.

RHP Chris Ellis (W, 7-3) tossed five innings and allowed a run on seven hits (three infield singles) with a walk and three strikeouts. Ellis' Double-A ERA is 3.41 over 14 starts.

With the game tied 1-1, Arkansas scored five runs in the fourth to jump out to a 6-1 lead. With runners on first and second with one out, 3B Brian Hernandez lined an RBI single to left to give the Travs the lead. RF Blake Gailen extended the lead with an RBI double, and with the bases loaded, C Anthony Bemboom blasted a bases loaded, bases-clearing double to left-center to cap the five-run frame.

Bemboom finished with four RBIs, his season-high for one game.

RHP Eduard Santos tossed two strong innings in relief of Ellis to preserve the five-run lead. Santos struck out three over his pair of frames.

RHP Nate Hyatt surrendered two runs in the eighth that allowed the Naturals to cut the deficit to 7-3, but LHP Greg Mahle worked a 10-pitch 1-2-3 ninth to finish the game.

Travs 1B Eric Aguilera finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

The Travs stole three bases in the game.

Arkansas has now won four of its last five games vs. Northwest Arkansas and is 8-2 over its last 10 games overall.

With the win, the Travs remain four games up in the North with nine games remaining.

Arkansas and Northwest Arkansas will play the middle game of the three-game series on Sunday evening at Arvest Ballpark. LHP Sean Newcomb (2-0, 1.29) will toe the rubber for the Travs and will be opposed by LHP Jonathan Dziedzic (9-6, 2.92). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05. p.m.
