August 29, 2015 - Texas League (TL1)
Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGDALE, AR - Naturals' outfielder Lane Adams went 2-for-4 and collected two RBI on the night but the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (25-35, 65-65) ended up falling to the Arkansas Travelers (32-29, 68-62) by the score of 7-3 on Saturday at Arvest Ballpark.
The Naturals jumped on board with a run in the bottom of the first inning as Raul Mondesi led off the inning with a single to center field. The very next hitter, Terrance Gore, drove him in with an infield single to shortstop, after Mondesi had stolen second base and advanced to third on a throwing error by Travelers' catcher Anthony Bemboom, to give the Naturals an early 1-0 advantage.
Arkansas tied the game at 1-1 in the top half of the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Bemboom that scored Eric Aguilera, who led off the inning with a double to left field before advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt. The Travelers would go on to take the lead with an offensive outburst in the top half of the fourth inning after Brian Hernandez singled to left field with one out to score Chad Hinshaw. Blake Gailen followed Hernandez with a double to right field to score Raywilly Gomez. Anthony Bemboom would then cap off the five run inning by drilling a two out, bases clearing double to give the Travelers a 6-1 lead and chase Naturals' starter Paul Clemens (0-1) from the game. Bemboon finished the night going 1-for-3 with four RBI to lead the Arkansas offense.
The Travelers would go on to add one more run in the top half of the eighth inning to extend their lead 7-1, but the Naturals would cut into their lead in in the bottom half of the inning against reliever Nate Hyatt. Jorge Bonifacio walked to lead off the inning and then Alex Liddi followed him with a single to left field to set the stage for Lane Adams. The Red Oak, Oklahoma native smacked a double into the left field corner to score both Bonifacio and Liddi, which cut the Travelers' lead to four at 7-3. The double as Adams' 20th of the season and the two RBI now give him 44 on the year to go along with his .290 average, which is good for Top 10 in the league. The Naturals would not be able to get any closer than that as LHP Greg Mahle came in and worked a perfect ninth to secure the 7-3 win.
RHP Paul Clemens made his starting debut for Northwest Arkansas, but ended up taking the loss while RHP Christopher Ellis (7-3 3.41 ERA) earned the win for the Travelers. With the loss tonight, the Naturals record against Arkansas now sits at 14-9 on the year.
