The teams exchanged scoring opportunities throughout the remainder of the first, but neither could capitalize and both teams went into the first intermission tied 1-1.

The Whale came out flying in the second frame. Connecticut got on the board at 1:26 of the second period and didn't stop until 13:39, scoring four goals to take a 5-1 lead. Despite the four-goal deficit, Providence kept pummeling Cameron Talbot with shots and finally found the back of the net at 18:43 on the power play. Caron tallied his fourth goal of the season, a team-high, when he beautifully redirected Bourque's shot from the point. Rookie Torey Krug also assisted on the play that sent the club into the second intermission trailing 5-2.

Play went back and forth throughout much of the third frame. Sauv é got Providence on the board and cut the deficit to two goals at 3:00 of the final frame. Sauvé ripped a shot past Talbot on the short side. The goal marked Providence's second power play goal of the game. Connecticut retook a three-goal lead at 8:07 when Kris Newbury capitalized on a misplay by Svedberg. Providence controlled the final minutes of the game, but couldn't find the back of the net and fell to the Whale 6-3.
