Road Woes Continue as Sharks Drop 5-1 Decision in Manchester

WORCESTER, Mass - The Worcester Sharks (1-4-0-1) dropped their 12th straight road game dating back to last season with a 5-1 loss to the Manchester Monarchs (4-1-0-0) on Saturday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

Five different skaters scored for the Monarchs as Sharks netminder Harri Sateri was pulled early in the 2nd period in the loss. The Sharks finish up their "3-in-3" weekend by returning home to host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers again on Sunday at 3pm.

A fast moving first period saw the Monarchs grab an early 2-0 lead through 20 minutes of play. Defenseman David Kolomatis (3rd) scored his 3rd power play goal of the season with a seeing eye wrist shot from on top of the right circle trough traffic and goaltender Harri Sateri at 6:10 to give Manchester a 1-0 advantage. After Dwight King hit the post, he swung the puck through the crease to Brandon Kozun (1st) who then slipped the puck through Satari's skates at 17:14. Worcester trailed 2-0 after the first period with the Monarchs holding a 9-6 shot advantage through 20 minutes.

The Monarchs grabbed a 3-0 lead with a wicked shot of the cross bar by Marc Andre Cliché (1st) at 26 seconds of the 2nd period which ended the night for Sharks netminder Harri Sateri. Alex Stalock replaced Sateri who allowed three goals on ten shots. Alex Stalock was greeted rudely as Manchester struck with a shorthanded goal by Slava Voynov (2nd) ant 2:19 followed by another score at 10:05 by Andy Andreoff (2nd) at 10:05 to put Manchester ahead 5-0. Sebastian Stalberg (4th) got the Sharks on the board with his team leading 4th goal of the season at 19:06 with a wicked shot from the left circle that was originally stopped by Martin Jones but then deflected off a Monarchs defenseman in front. James Sheppard and Mike Banwell assisted on the lone Worcester score as the Sharks trailed 5-1 after 40 minutes.

Neither team found the back of the net in the third period that saw just a total of 15 shots on goal as the Monarchs held on for a 5-1 victory over the Sharks

The Sharks overall record improves to 1-4-0-1 (3pts in 6gp) and 0-3-0-1 (1pt in 3gp) on the road this season.

Notes: FIVE GUYS BURGERS Three Stars: 3rd star: Martin Jones (20 saves, W) 2nd star: Brandon Kozun (1-1-2) 1st star: Dwight King (0-2-2)... Final shots were 29-21 in favor of Manchester... Martin Jones made 20 saves on 21 shots for Manchester... Harri Sateri made 7 saves on 10 shots for Worcester in 20:16 and Alex Stalock made 17 saves on 19 shots as his replacement... Worcester went 0-for-3 on the power play while Manchester went 1-for-4... Brodie Reid (inj), James Livingston, Brandon Mashinter, Taylor Doherty (inj), Mikael Tam (inj), Frazer McLaren (inj), and Daniil Tarasov did not dress for Worcester... with the loss, the Sharks now have a 12 game winless streak on the road (0-9-0-3) dating back to last season and a seven game winless skid in Manchester (0-4-3)... the Sharks now have allowed three shorthanded goals this season.
