Prokop Gives Hitmen 6-5 OT Win

Kelowna, BC - Josh Prokop scored 2:31 into extra time to give the Calgary Hitmen a thrilling 6-5 overtime win over the Kelowna Rockets on Family Day Monday afternoon at Prospera Place.

Trailing 5-1 heading to the third period, the Hitmen stormed all the way back to force the extra session when Carson Focht netted the equalizer with 1:35 remaining. It was Focht's second goal of the game and 30th of the season. Kyle Olson also supplied a pair of markers in the frame while sophomore forward Riley Fiddler-Schultz tallied other Calgary goal back in the second period.

Goaltender Jack McNaughton came off the bench to make four saves in the third period and three more in overtime to pick up the win as Calgary outshot Kelowna 38-29.

The Hitmen, who improve to 9-3 in their last 12 games, are now 2-0 on their five-game B.C. Division road trip.

Matthew Wedman and Alex Swetlifoff led the Kelowna attack with a goal and an assist while Conner McDonald, Ethan Ernst and Dillon Hamaliuk also scored for the 2020 Memorial Cup hosts.

The Hitmen 31-18-4-1, continue their road swing Wednesday, Feb. 19 on Vancouver Island against the Victoria Royals. Calgary will then head to Langley to face Vancouver (Feb. 21) before wrapping up the trip in Kamloops (Feb. 22).

Calgary is back in Scotiabank Saddledome on Thursday, Feb. 27 against Winnipeg in the TELUS BE BRAVE #EndBullying Game. The puck drops at 11:00 a.m. for the educational event that will see more than 12,000 students in attendance learn about acceptance and bullying prevention.
