Prime Stars But Critical Eighth Inning Sinks AirHogs

June 9, 2018 - American Association (AA) - Texas AirHogs News Release

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Correlle Prime reached three times, but the Texas AirHogs fell in the second of a three-game set in Sioux City Saturday evening by a final of 7-3. The AirHogs and Explorers close the series tomorrow at 6:05 p.m.

A four-run eighth inning by Sioux City vs. reliever Pedro Hernandez opened breathing room late in what was an otherwise close game. Each team entered the eighth inning with just three hits, and the X's led 3-2 before rallying to extend the advantage.

Miguel Rosario (0-3) got the start for the AirHogs and went four innings. He allowed three runs, two of them on a first-inning home run by Michael Lang. Julio Eusebio came out of the bullpen to throw two scoreless innings before giving way to Taylor Wright in the seventh. Wright inherited two runners from Eusebio but used a key pickoff and a 4-6-3 double play to keep the score 3-2 after 7.

Taylor Jordan (4-0) picked up the win for Sioux City after going five innings and limiting the AirHogs to three hits and two runs. Texas rallied from an early 2-0 deficit with two two-out runs in the third. Prime picked up an RBI with a triple to score Stewart Ijames and then scored himself on an RBI single from Dillon Thomas.

Texas loaded the bases in the sixth vs. Jordan with no one out. Sioux City brought in Patrick Schuster from the bullpen, and the lefty former Oakland A pitched them out of trouble, inducing a strikeout and two key forceouts at home to escape unscathed.

The win was the ninth in a row for Sioux City. Chu Fujia picked up a ninth inning RBI for Texas vs. Parker Markel, who entered in a 3-2 game in the eighth and ended up earning his second save of the season.

The AirHogs (3-17) will look to salvage a game in the three-game series tomorrow at 6:05. RHP Meng Weiqiang (1-2, 2.91 ERA) is expected to start for the AirHogs. RHP Keith Picht (0-0, 2.60 ERA) will get the ball for Sioux City. A live broadcast of the game will be available at
