
Goldeyes Add Rookie Right-Hander

WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes signed right-handed pitcher Carter Johnson on Saturday.
Johnson just completed his redshirt senior season at the University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley (Edinburg, Texas) where he was 1-6 with a 4.89 ERA in nine starts and five relief appearances. The La Jolla, California native struck out 60 batters and walked only 23 in 53.0 innings pitched. In each of his final two years with the Vaqueros, Johnson had a start in which he pitched seven no-hit innings. The 22-year-old right-hander posted a 2.70 ERA with 87 strikeouts in 80.0 innings as a redshirt junior in 2017.
Johnson started his college career at San Jose State University (San Jose, California), and was granted a medical redshirt following his freshman year in 2014. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Johnson transferred to Palomar Junior College (San Marcos, California) where he was 4-4 with a 3.66 ERA in 51.2 innings as a redshirt sophomore in 2016.
Johnson's first appearance with the Goldeyes will represent his professional debut.
On Friday, the Goldeyes placed left-handed pitcher Shane Dawson on the Disabled List, retroactive to June 2nd. The Goldeyes' active roster stands at 23 players.
The Goldeyes play game two of a three-game series tonight against the Chicago Dogs.
