Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, Kan. - A three-run top of the first set the tone for the Kansas City T-Bones, as they clinched the series with an 11-2 win over the Wichita Wingnuts at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Saturday night.

The T-Bones (12-8) got the scoring started on a Cal Towey two-out, two-run double in the first off Wingnuts starter Jordan Cooper (2-2). A throwing error plated the third run of the inning, then Kansas City made it 4-0 in the second on an RBI single from Nick Torres.

Wichita (10-11) allowed three more runs in the fifth, then two in the sixth as the T-Bones extended the lead out to 9-0. Dexter Kjerstad and Todd Cunningham highlighted the barrage with RBI doubles, leading a group of four T-Bones who recorded two hits apiece.

Two more Kansas City runs came across in the top of the ninth, before the Wingnuts finally broke up the shutout in the bottom half of the frame. Fernando Perez led off the inning with a solo home run for his second consecutive night with a long ball, then Ryne Willard slapped an RBI single to provide the game's final margin.

Kansas City starter Scott Carroll (1-0) picked up the win with five scoreless innings of work, striking out just two but only allowing only four singles.

The Wingnuts and T-Bones will conclude their series on Sunday afternoon, as lefty Casey Harman (2-1, 1.12) gets the start for Wichita against Kansas City right-hander Lucas Irvine (1-0, 3.17). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM and will be broadcast on 1410 AM/93.9 FM KGSO, TuneIn and americanassociationbaseball.tv.
