Akron RubberDucks News Release
Summary
Akron first baseman Micah Pries had three hits and homered for a third straight game, giving the RubberDucks the lead in the third inning, and Akron held on for a 5-4 win over the Erie SeaWolves to snap a three-game losing streak in the second game of a six-game series at UPMC Park Wednesday night.
Turning Point
The RubberDucks trailed, 1-0, in the top of the third inning against Erie right-hander Wilmer Flores. Shortstop José Tena reached on an error by second baseman Wenceel Perez, and second baseman Brayan Rocchio singled to right field. Flores struck out the next two batters before Pries launched a three-run home run to right field - his 13th of the season, his third in as many games and his eighth in his last 17 games - to give Akron a 3-1 lead.
Mound Presence
Left-hander Joey Cantillo allowed a first-inning run on two hits, including an RBI single by center fielder Parker Meadows. He scattered four more hits and allowed a run in the fourth, when catcher Dillon Dingler hit an RBI double. Cantillo went 4 2/3 innings, striking out nine batters to match his season high, and allowed two runs - one earned - on six hits and a walk. Right-hander Robert Broom pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings, and left-hander Randy Labaut pitched two perfect innings. Right-hander Brett Daniels allowed Dingler's two-run home run before retiring the next three batters for his first save in the Guardians organization.
Duck Tales
The RubberDucks led, 3-2, in the sixth inning, when they added to the lead against right-hander Billy Lescher. Pries hit a leadoff single, designated hitter Raynel Delgado was hit by a pitch, and Lescher walked center fielder Chris Roller and third baseman Daniel Schneemann to force in a run. Right-hander Chavez Fernander entered to record one out before allowing Tena's sacrifice fly to make it 5-2.
