Erie SeaWolves News Release

The Erie SeaWolves' comeback was cut short as they fell 5-4 to the Akron RubberDucks on Wednesday at UPMC Park.

Erie plated a run in the first. Andre Lipcius poked a one-out single against Joey Cantillo. Lipcius moved to second after Cantillo threw the ball away on a pickoff attempt. Parker Meadows capitalized on the error and plated Lipcius with a single.

Akron pulled ahead 3-1 in the third. Jose Tena reached on a Wenceel Perez error. Brayan Rocchio singled off of Wilmer Flores to bring Tena to third. Flores battled back by striking out George Valera and Jhonkensy Noel but gave up a three-run blast to Micah Pries.

The SeaWolves cut the deficit to 3-2 in the fourth. Quincy Nieporte led off with a double and advanced to third on a Dane Myers groundout. Nieporte came around to score on an RBI double from Dillon Dingler.

The Rubberducks tacked on two runs in the sixth. Pries began the inning with a single off of Billy Lescher. The right-hander hit Rayndel Delgado with a pitch before yielding back-to-back walks, which allowed Pries to score. Two batters later, Tena lifted a sac fly against Chavez Fernander to bring in Delgado and give Akron a 5-2 lead.

Erie rallied in the ninth. Myers extended his hit streak to 10 games with a single against Brett Daniels. Dingler then launched a two-run blast, to make it a 5-4 game. It was his sixth long ball of the season. Daniels retired the next three hitters for his first save with Akron.

Robert Broom (1-0) earned the win after tossing 1.1 scoreless innings.

Flores (3-2) was tagged with the loss. He went 4.2 innings, allowing three unearned runs on four hits and no walks while striking out four.
