Patriots' Late Surge Falls Short in Reading

Reading, Pennsylvania - The Reading Fightin Phils (2-0, 31-40) defeated the Somerset Patriots (0-2, 44-27) by the score of 4-2 on Wednesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Jhailyn Ortiz got the Fightins on the board with an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning, scoring Vito Friscia.

Aldrem Corredor (7) then extended Reading's lead with a two-run blast in the fourth inning.

Elijah Dunham (9) put Somerset on the board with a solo home run in the sixth inning, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

Reading tacked on another run in the seventh inning on a Chris Sharpe sacrifice fly, scoring Wendell Rijo.

Somerset got a run back in the top of the ninth inning on a Jesus Bastidas RBI double for the 4-2 final.

Colton Eastman (1-0) earned the win for Reading, allowing a run on four hits in seven innings of work, striking out four. Sean Boyle (4-4) took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits over six innings of work with five strikeouts. JoJo Romero recorded his first save of the season, allowing a run in two innings of relief.
