Pride Thumped by Rapidz; 10-4

(Ottawa, ON, August 21, 2008) The Nashua Pride were topped, 10-4, by the Ottawa Rapidz at Ottawa Stadium on Thursday night.

The Rapidz offense scored seven runs combined in the fifth and sixth innings to go ahead for good against Nashua. Designated hitter Jake Daubert had the game winning hit, a bases clearing three run double in the fifth inning and finished the night 1-for-4. First baseman Jabe Bergeron added insurance for the Rapidz in the sixth with a three run home run, finishing the night 1-for-3.

Rapidz starting pitcher Mike Kusiewicz (3-8) earned the win going six innings, giving up three runs, on ten hits, three walks and four strike outs. Reliever Angelo Burrows pitched a scoreless innings while Matt Tosoni gave up one run in two innings of work.

Pride center fielder Ervin Alcantara went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI while first baseman Bryan Duplissie also laced three hits and tallied a RBI. Third baseman Mike Torres had the other Pride RBI of the evening and finished the game 1-for-5.

Pride starter Lance Stevens (6-7) suffered the loss lasting four and two-thirds innings, giving up six runs (five earned), on five hits, five walks and four strike outs. Jarrett Stawarz gave up three runs in an inning and one-third while Sean Heimpel gave up one run and struck out five in his Pride debut.

The Pride will play next on Friday night at Historic Holman Stadium versus the Quebec Capitales, at 7:05pm, when Nashua sends Isaac Burkett (3-4) to the mound.
